The Wheels on the Bus

Fri Jul 15, 2005 at 12:43:44 PM PDT

My six year old is struggling to understand why his mother has been hovering over the computer almost constantly for the last week, muttering like a mad woman.  I've tried to explain a little bit of the Rove/Plame situation to him but it's just too complicated for an innocent mind.

Then the other day, during one of those press briefings where Scotty looked a little constipated, a song, The Wheels on the Bus, popped into my head.  God only knows why because I really hate that song and look back fondly on the age when my son outgrew his love of it.

Anyway, there I was watching Scotty with my mind meandering through the many verses and lo and behold, there it was.  It's all so clear to me now.....

The White House spin machine, perpetually in motion, sets its sights on discrediting Joe Wilson and his wife.

The wheels on the bus go round and round.
round and round.
round and round.
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
all through the town!

After Rove is identified as Cooper's source, the media gets very excited and peppers Scott McClellan with questions during the press briefing.

The people on the bus go up and down.
up and down.
up and down.
The people on the bus go up and down,
all through the town!

Alas!  Scotty won't answer questions relating to the investigation.

The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep.
beep, beep beep.
beep, beep, beep.
The horn on the bus goes beep, beep, beep.
all through the town!

But then the White House press realizes that Scotty has lied to them!

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish.
swish, swish, swish.
swish, swish, swish.
The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish,
all through the town!

Uh oh! George Bush and the White House staff are getting nervous.

The signals on the bus go blink, blink, blink.
blink, blink, blink.
blink, blink, blink.
The signals on the bus go blink, blink, blink,
all through the town!

Time to rev up the right wing noise machine.

The motor on the bus goes zoom, zoom, zoom.
zoom, zoom, zoom.
zoom, zoom, zoom.
The motor on the bus goes zoom, zoom, zoom,
all through the town!

"This is a smear job by the Democrats," they cry! "Wilson lied," they scream.

The babies on the bus go waa, waa, waa.
waa, waa, waa.
waa, waa, waa.
The babies on the bus go waa, waa, waa,
all through the town!

The left however, is too smart to fall for this weak tactic and fail to rise to the bait.

The parents on the bus go shh, shh, shh.
shh, shh, shh.
shh, shh, shh.
The parents on the bus go shh, shh, shh,
all through the town!

Putting his 30+ year relationship with Rove before his promise to the American people that he would fire any administration official found to be the source of the leak, Bush  now refuses to fire Rove.

The mommy on the bus says, I love you.
I love you, I love you
The daddy on the bus says, I love you, too.
All through the town.

By the way, this didn't help my kid understand the situation any better but what the hell, I gave myself a giggle.
